AI training work for accountants, CPAs and finance professionals

Finance is the highest-velocity field on this board right now. Labs are hiring accountants, auditors and analysts in volume because financial reasoning is where their models still fail in expensive, checkable ways.

The work

What you would actually be doing

Not data entry, and not a job. It is expert review, done through a web dashboard, paid by the hour for the hours you log.

Checking the numbers and the reasoning

A model produces a valuation, a reconciliation or a tax treatment. You verify whether the arithmetic holds and whether the method was right in the first place — the second is what they actually need.

Writing problems from real practice

You build the kind of question that separates competence from pattern-matching: a revenue recognition edge case, a consolidation with minority interests, a deferred tax calculation that reverses.

Compliance and financial crime review

AML and KYC projects ask you to judge whether a flagged pattern is genuinely suspicious and whether the model reasoned its way there properly. These run consistently and pay well.

Pay

What these roles pay

Every figure here is read from the platform's own listing. Where a listing shows no rate, it is not counted rather than estimated. Based on39 hourly listings open today.

Under $50/hr10 roles
$50 – $79/hr17 roles
$80 – $119/hr10 roles
$120 – $179/hr2 roles
$180/hr and up0 roles

Rates are the starting figure on each listing. The top of a range usually goes to the most senior applicants, and some listings pay per task or per project instead — the board marks which.

Eligibility

Who qualifies

Platforms verify credentials, so apply where you genuinely fit. This is who these listings are written for:

  • CPAs, CAs, ACCA and equivalent qualified accountants
  • Auditors, internal and external, including SOX and controls specialists
  • Tax professionals: corporate, individual, international, transfer pricing
  • AML, KYC, sanctions and financial crime analysts
  • Financial analysts, FP&A, equity research and investment professionals
  • Controllers, treasurers and actuaries
  • Bookkeepers and staff accountants for volume review work

Honest caveats

What to know first

The parts people find out after they have already spent an evening on an assessment:

  • The volume is real but it moves. A track hiring hundreds this month can be closed next month when the lab has what it needs.
  • Some finance projects are per-task rather than hourly. Work out your effective rate before committing time.
  • Accuracy is audited. Sloppy or rushed judgements get flagged and can end a project assignment.
  • You are not giving financial advice and there is no client relationship, but confidentiality about project content is enforced.

Getting accepted

How to position your background

The screening is the whole gate. These are the things that decide whether a strong applicant gets matched to a project.

01

Name the framework you work under

US GAAP, IFRS, local GAAP — say which. A model being trained on US filings needs someone who works in US GAAP, and the listing will not always spell that out.

02

Be specific about industry

Financial services, SaaS, manufacturing and real estate have different accounting realities. Naming yours matches you to project scoping faster than a generic accounting summary.

03

Quantify the work you have signed off

Deal sizes, entity counts, the scale of the audits you have run. Concrete scope reads as senior in a way that "extensive experience" does not.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Do I need to be a CPA?

For the top-rate expert work, a professional qualification is usually what unlocks it. Plenty of listings accept strong practical experience without one, particularly in AML, bookkeeping and analysis. The listing states its requirement.

How much does finance AI training work pay?

Live rates for finance listings are shown above, taken directly from the platform. Qualified accountants and specialist compliance work sit near the top; general analysis and bookkeeping review sit lower.

Is this busy-season compatible?

It is entirely self-scheduled, so most people scale it down in busy season and pick it back up after. There is no minimum commitment on most projects, though a project with a lab deadline may ask for a burst of availability.

Does my firm need to know?

That is between you and your employment agreement. Public accounting firms often have outside-work and independence policies that require disclosure or approval. Check before you start rather than after.

Are there independence or conflict problems?

You are reviewing model output, not auditing an entity, so classic independence rules generally do not bite. If a project ever involves a company you audit, raise it with the platform and step off it.

Which platform hires the most finance people?

Mercor runs the most finance listings and the highest rates. Alignerr posts finance specialist tracks regularly. DataAnnotation is the reliable fallback for general work between expert projects.

What does the assessment involve?

Typically a recorded interview about your background plus a short practical exercise — reviewing a worked calculation or explaining a treatment. Have your reasoning ready to say out loud; they are testing judgement, not recall.

Can I do this from outside the US?

Yes, though the highest-rate listings are often US-locked because they train on US filings and tax code. International accounting and IFRS projects do appear, and non-US listings are marked with their eligible regions on the board.

Hey — I'm a backend and data engineer. Most of my career has been spent in big tech on systems that collect, clean and serve data, and a while back I started taking AI-training contracts myself because the work actually fit around a full-time job. Then I spent months working out which platforms were real, which paid what, and which were quietly wasting my evenings.

How I make money, stated plainly: other than my goal of helping people find this work, the referrals make me money. If you sign up through one of my links and get hired, the platform pays me a referral fee out of its own pocket. It does not come out of your pay, it does not change your rate, and it does not change your odds of being accepted.
